HONG KONG |  If I had to define fashion luxury brand Viniga’s founder, Brigitte Da Silva, in just one word “passionate” would most likely be the best match. Her newly opened boutique in one of Sheung Wan’s narrow streets is flooded by her positive energy and friendly attitude. And so are Da Silva’s designs. Viniga stands outs for her effortless pieces, which stand out for the use of high quality fabrics and sophisticated details such leather buttons and other embellishments. Originally from South Africa, Da Silva has been living in Hong Kong for 16 years. It was in 2008 when she finally decided to launch Vinigia and fulfill her childhood dream of having her own brand. Da Silva used to fantasize with the idea of becoming a fashion designer as she played around her parents clothing manufacturing plant in South Africa. After she graduated, the plant became her work place. She helped her parents while she designed couture pieces for her private clientele. In fact, her roots play a very important role in Viniga’s collections. All the samples are manufactured in South Africa, while the inspiration and the lines that define her signature designs come from her adventurous spirit, her love-affair with Hong Kong and other Asian cities. Her latest Urban Glam pre-fall collection features her signature classical shapes inspired by Dior’s and Chanel’s lines and tailoring traits; manipulated with conflicting textures and yarns, maintaining the definitive Viniga color palette and structures. Da Silva is known for her extremely versatile pieces. She designs both womenswear and menswear, but some of the menswear can be easily worn by women. Either for a more casual boyfriend look, or turning them into a chic outfit with the right accessories. Viniga is a brand for those looking for effortless yet powerful looks. From poplin shirts, leggings and tulle skirts to dramatic couture shapes, extreme visuals in faux fur with interesting use of shimmer. Last but not least, Brigitte Da Silva is well known under the artistic name of Brigitte Mitchell among the artistic community in Hong Kong and Asia. She just released her third jazz album in Japan in March. Collection and lookbook photos courtesy of Viniga.
