HONG KONG | Bulgari’s highly exclusive Octo Finissimo watch collection blends the best watchmaking tradition, roman jewellery heritage and Chinese artistic memory. Renowned Chinese contemporary artist Simon Ma put the three dimensions together. He explored the creative possibilities of the animal Horse and its meaning in the Chinese horoscope to create thirteen different models. In particular, Ma was keen on perpetuating the artistic memory of Xu Beihong, the best known Chinese painter whose favorite theme was the horse. “The horse is loyal and brave, diligent and determined, humble and kind-hearted”, says Ma. Tradition, poetry, ritual, emotions and intellect intersect through the use of ink and calligraphy, following the rules of century old Chinese traditions. Therefore Ma personally embellished each watch with a symbolic motif evoking the majestic horse. In addition, each of the models comes in a limited series box decorated by Ma himself. This a limited series exclusive for the Greater China market. It comprises twelve Octo finissimo Petite Seconde model, BVL Calibre 128. And a one-of-a-kind Octo Finissimo Tourbillon powered by Calibre 268, the smallest tourbillon ever. Both editions come in 18K pink gold case and black alligator leather strap. Simon Ma (Hong Kong, 1974) started learning the art of traditional Chinese painting at the age of seven, under the guidance of renowned Master Fan Tzu Teng. A life devoted to Chinese ink painting followed. Ma’s particular style of bridging Easter and Western traditions through his art brought him to collaborate with major international brands such Lamborghini, Porsche, Ferrari, Ducati,  Martin1898, Chivas 18 and Bulgari; among others.
