DELVING INTO THE ART OF DRESSING WITH ANAGRAM

HONG KONG |  There’s nothing like the touch of a nice fabric. Specially, if they have been carefully selected to bring each garment a specific character. Hong Kong local brand, Anagram, sources premium fabrics from around the world -specially from Spain and Italy-, which they use to play around with textures, prints and yarns.  This philosophy springs from the brand’s name –an anagram rearranges letters in a word or phrase in order to create a new word and meaning-. Hence, every single piece they design is carefully considered  so that loyal clients can mix-and-match according to their own tastes and the occasion. We had the chance to experience Anagram’s interesting creative process at their Autumn/Winter 2016 preview of their new pop-up store in Wyndham Street (until the end of October 2016). A fun jewelry workshop  gave us the chance to create bangles and necklaces from scratch by playing around with remnants from Anagram’s gorgeous fabrics. Hong Kong renowned artist David Cow followed a similar creative process to give shape to his Art piece “The Impulse of Ideation”: –also on display at Anagram’s pop-up-. By using the brand’s premium fabrics as his paint and the skill of Fabric Sculpting, the artist transformed his two-dimensional work “Imaginer” into the  three dimensional art piece: Every fabric represents a dimension of thought; every thread a memory; every knot a lesson; every stitch a step into the unknown to weave together the tapestry of the mind, gathered into a single point of potential. A similar cognition challenge spawned by Cow’s art piece is reproduced by Anagram’s Fall Winter 2016 collection. Sure, bold prints and more saturated colors such red, burgundy, cobalt blue, black and ivory are used to create longer length dresses and tops with structural sleeves. But Anagram likes to add a touch of soft femininity to unexpected pieces. Such the eye-catching “splash lace” dress, literally splashed with paint in the most delicate, yet sophisticate way. In sum, for the coming Autumn and Winter, Anagram continues its exploration of minimalist design by drawing from influences such Expressionism to minerals to the Renaissance to create their signature simple and modern elegance.
